JJ's TOP TIPS
Hi , my name is JJ and I am a good friend of Lorna's. I am a Hungarian Vizsla and have a human called Mary. I am always trying to think up new games and ideas and Lorna has asked me to share some of them with you and your dogs. Here is my latest Top Tip.......
TIP No. 4 - HOW TO MOVE HOUSE
For
some reason I don’t fully understand we are going to live in a different house.
I’m a bit highly strung and find these things difficult, so here’s a few tips
to help if you too have to move.
I
don’t like things being put in boxes so, after a nice long walk, I stay in the
kitchen and have a kong and a sleep while these things are going on. Later, I run
all round the house, sniffing at everything to see what’s changed. That’s my
first tip. Don’t let your owner wash your bed, or anything else for that matter,
before the move. You’ll feel a lot more settled if your new home is smelly like
your old one! Also, the first things to
be unpacked should be your bed and toys and then you’ll feel at home
straightaway.
On
the day itself, Lorna will be my constant companion. We will have a room to
ourselves with my bed, toys and chews so that I don’t see all the furniture
being moved. If we go into the garden, I’m going to be on my lead. I don’t
trust myself not to run out of the front door after my things. I shall be
wearing my new tag for the journey and my owner will have already changed my
Petlog details so that my microchip shows the new address.
That
brings me to a very important tip. Make sure your owner provides you with lots
of fresh water throughout moving day. It’ll be a long day! I often can’t eat in
new places. (That may seem strange to many of you – especially my Labrador
friends). It’s no problem, though. If I wake a bit peckish at 3am the first
night, I’ll just ask for my supper then. That’s what I’ve done before.
Whatever
plans your owner makes, make sure they’re made in good time.
Finally, remember to put your mark on the new garden
as soon as you arrive – especially if cats have lived in the area previously.
PREVIOUS TIPS
1. DUNKING IN PADDLING POOL
Fill the doggy paddling pool with treats and toys and have a great time dunking for biscuits and playing with the toys.
Ask your owner to stuff a vegetable hedgehog chew with treats - great fun - an edible treat dispenser.
3. AN ENRICHED ENVIRONMENT
In the garden or house - some of my food is scattered, some treats are hidden in cardboard boxes or kongs and some toys and other chews are provided. I am then allowed to explore. Great fun and mental stimulation.
Have fun.
Love JJ.
